Session Focus
Control Over Power: Inside Foot Finishing
This week is about helping players finish with control, not power. We’re not chasing screamers — we’re teaching players how to guide the ball with purpose using the inside of the foot.
Whether they’re 6 or 11, we want players to understand their technique, body shape, and mindset around the goal. Calm finishing wins games. So we build that now.
Structure & Flow of Session
1. Ball Mastery Warm-Up (10 mins)
Age 1-6: Basic ball control exercises with fun themes Age 7-11: More complex footwork patterns with increased tempo
2. Contextual Game Scenario (15 mins)
Age 1-6: Simple finishing games encouraging clean technique Age 7-11: Finishing exercises with light pressure and decision-making
3. Small Sided Game (15 mins)
Age 1-6: Fun games encouraging calm finishing Age 7-11: Conditioned games rewarding controlled finishing
4. Match-Related Play (15–20 mins)
Age 1-6: Free play with minimal rules Age 7-11: Small-sided matches with finishing focus
Why This Structure Works
- Builds calmness and control around the goal
- Shifts the focus from “hitting it hard” to scoring consistently
- Helps players build the habit of clean technique under light pressure
- Connects finishing with movement, shielding, and decision-making
