Module: Master The Opponent: 7-12 Years Old Classroom: Use The 360TFT Game Model
Session Focus
Beating Defenders in Isolation
Develop the ability to take on and beat defenders in 1v1 situations. Building confidence to commit to the dribble and the skills to execute.
Why This Topic Matters
Every player will face 1v1 moments in games. The ability to beat a defender creates numerical advantages, scoring opportunities, and breaks down defensive structures. Players who can win these moments become game-changers.
Key Learning Outcomes
- Recognising when to take on a defender
- Approaching at pace with control
- Using skills and feints to unbalance
- Accelerating past the defender
- Decision-making: dribble, pass, or shoot after beating
How We Coach It
- Create isolated 1v1 situations with goals
- Progress from passive to active defenders
- Reward attempts as well as success
- Connect to game situations (final third, wide areas, etc.)
Key Coaching Points
- “Attack the defender’s front foot”
- “Get them on their heels”
- “Commit them before you make your move”
- “Accelerate after the skill”
- “Know what you’ll do if you beat them”
