Session Focus
1v1 Attacking - Advanced
Building on Week 5, this session advances 1v1 attacking skills with more complex scenarios. Players work on combining moves, handling tighter defensive pressure, and executing in smaller spaces.
Progressing 1v1 attacking skills with increased complexity and defensive pressure.
Structure & Flow of Session
1. Ball Mastery Warm-Up (10 mins)
Combination Moves Practice
Practice linking multiple moves together - stepover into drag back, body feint into outside cut, etc.
- Chain two moves together
- Practice both directions
- Progress to including a defender
Coach Prompts:
- “What’s your backup if the first move doesn’t work?”
- “Can you combine different types of moves?”
- “How do you read the defender’s response?”
2. Contextual Game Scenario (15 mins)
1v1 in Tight Spaces
Individual duels in restricted areas. Players must create space and opportunities in congested situations.
- Smaller playing areas than Week 5
- Quicker defender recovery
- Multiple exit options
Coach Prompts:
- “How do you create space when there isn’t any?”
- “Did you use the boundary to your advantage?”
- “What move works in tight spaces?”
3. Small Sided Game (15 mins)
1v1 Gates Game
SSG with gates around the pitch. Teams score by dribbling through gates (1v1 success) before shooting.
- Must beat a defender through a gate to score
- Multiple gates provide options
- Encourages purposeful dribbling
Coach Prompts:
- “Which gate gives you the best chance?”
- “Are you committing defenders before choosing your gate?”
- “What happens after you beat them?”
4. Match-Related Play (15-20 mins)
4v4 Free Play
Open game with focus on taking on opponents. Encourage positive, attacking play.
- Celebrate successful dribbles
- Note progression from Week 5
- Allow natural expression

- Read defender’s balance and momentum
- Use the space you create
- Combination moves for unpredictability
- Recover quickly if first move fails
- Be brave in tight spaces
