Identifying Opponent Patterns

Every team has patterns. Your job is finding them before the match, not during it.

Systematic Opponent Observation

Watch their last 3 matches. Look for:

• How they build attacks (same patterns?)
• Where they lose possession most
• Set piece routines
• Substitution timing
• Reaction to going behind

Tactical Weakness Identification

Focus on exploitable weaknesses:

• Slow centre-backs (play balls in behind)
• Poor communication (overload certain areas)
• Weak left side (attack down their right)
• Set piece vulnerabilities

Key Questions for Opposition Analysis

• How do they react under pressure?
• What happens when their key player is marked?
• Do they change shape during the game?
• How do they defend set pieces?
• What’s their preferred method of attack?
