Identifying Opponent Patterns
STATUS: DRAFT
Every team has patterns. Your job is finding them before the match, not during it.
Systematic Opponent Observation
Watch their last 3 matches. Look for:
- How they build attacks (same patterns?)
- Where they lose possession most
- Set piece routines
- Substitution timing
- Reaction to going behind
Tactical Weakness Identification
Focus on exploitable weaknesses:
- Slow centre-backs (play balls in behind)
- Poor communication (overload certain areas)
- Weak left side (attack down their right)
- Set piece vulnerabilities
Key Questions for Opposition Analysis
- How do they react under pressure?
- What happens when their key player is marked?
- Do they change shape during the game?
- How do they defend set pieces?
- What’s their preferred method of attack?
