How does this training help?
Similar apps will just lay out a series of exercises that do not connect. Our app helps you train all areas of the game in a layered way. Once you have mastered one level, you move to the next one, with the previous level being built upon.
The Science
At younger ages, we would encourage ball manipulation over ball kicking. When your child just kicks at a young age, they get good at that (and chasing), but not much else!
Instead, they should learn ball manipulation skills so they can be masters of the ball.
Are these exercises just for children?
Absolutely not! As you can see from the video above, they can get pretty complicated so they are for all players who wish to improve.
All of these skills have been designed to be done in a safe and protective environment (home/garden - no kicking!) and with minimal equipment. All you need is a ball and 2 cones (often just a ball).
Each exercise encourages the player to be:
- Comfortable with having the ball at both feet
- Technically balanced and coordinated
- A Clever Player through repetition, repetition, and more repetition. The more “reps” and touches, the more the brain joins the dots. The more dots that join, the more unconscious a skill becomes.
We’ve also included detailed information on how what they are learning is applied in a game so it can all be linked together, as well as layered up.
If You Are A Parent
If you are a parent helping your young athlete then you have a vital role to play in their development! Encourage your child in their journey and celebrate it with them. If you can do 20-30 minutes per day/every two days then this will have a powerful impact on their development and on your relationship with them.
Film their progress, share it online (tag us!), and have fun!
If You Are A Parent Coach
These exercises are designed to be done in the home and/or garden. Make sure the environment is safe. For example, if the surface is slippy then avoid wearing socks.
You as a parent are key! You are your child’s greatest role model and they will want to copy you. If you can, show them the skills yourself and they will want to show it back… and please be patient and positive.
These exercises are about ball control. Your child will want to kick the ball around the house or into a goal, and that is great fun! However, for 20 minutes a day if you can focus their attention on these exercises then the repetitive nature of them will allow your child to grow technically and become a clever little player.
Enjoy!
