Stephen Kavanagh • Aug 15I’ve enjoyed every format and we have played a lot of 3v3, 4 goal game which I also love. There is a nice challenge at 11v11 especially as the kids get older and are more tactically aware and more able to see the bigger picture. I’m planning to take a more analytical approach this year - it is hard not to get caught up in the game in front of you and watching it like a supporter! I’m going to ask parents to help with some analysis too. So things I’ll be noting are how the opposition line up, wha… See more1Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • Sep 16@Trevor CharlieApologies, there was a further error in the PDF, which has now been fixed and is attached below. You can pick activity A or B for possession (not both)The 4v4+3 sees the +3 (yellows) play with the team in possession. You can change the rules of the exercise to suit your game/team principles. You can also change the numbers to suit.I’ve suggested making the +3 a midfield unit (e.g #6,#8, #10), but it can be CB, CM, ST, or any positions you need to warm up. I would always pull in a s… See moreMatchday Warmup.pdfPDF • 2mb2Reply

Trevor Charlie • Sep 16@Kevin Middleton thanks for the explanation. It’s a simple set up and that you can get a lot out of in short space of time. Great repetitions for a match warm up.1Reply

Trevor Charlie • Sep 16 (edited)I’ve been working with the game model 12-18 weeks 1&2 and 7-12 weeks 1-3. Swapping exercises in and out along with the preseason fitness plan. Hit a familiar wall tonight when trying to introduce a 3v3+3 Rondo to cover the transition phase of play.A couple of the boys got it but it was just too much for the other 10 lads who were confused and didn’t really even understand the concept of what transition is. I used up a lot of time explaining and no ball rolling. Ended just playing a 6v6 + GK with… See more2Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • Sep 17@Trevor Charlie Hi Trevor, apologies for the delay. It has been a busy morning for me!This is natural! As a comparison, it’s like learning something new when reading a factual book. Initially they are just words on a page, then as you re-read or read on further, they start to connect to a concept, and then by the end of the book the words connect to layers and layers of different concepts. And if you read the book again, you start to think ahead of the page you are on as the dots connect quicker…. Trevor Charlie • Sep 17@Kevin Middleton Makes perfect sense and I think herein lies my problem which is a) my patience and focus to read the whole book! (I have ADHD)b) Players who can read lol!c) The strong desire to focus on matchplay all the time due to my fears of how we will fare in a much stronger league in less than 2 weeks which I’m not sure they are ready for.I like those books that you can pick up time and again (although there are few in my library!) I do recognise that falling back on what I’ve done a lot … See more1Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • Sep 17Hi Trevor, all coaches go through this don’t worry. The game model is designed as a layered learning approach, so you will revisit the topic again, allowing the players to forget and some of what you taught last time will be sparked when you revisit. In terms of approach, I like to send my session to the players before the session, in the WhatsApp group or however you communicate with them, allowing them to digest it and take in any key objectives you’re trying to land. You could explain transiti… See more0Reply

Trevor Charlie • Sep 17 (edited)@Jamie Birch Hi and thanks. I like the concept of having a programme of sessions as opposed to designing and putting together sessions based on either this weeks problem or the perception of what you think players need.Looking ahead its all very new in terms of set up for the lads and how the drill/practice is going to work in many of the weeks. I don’t want to spend ages setting something up that they don’t really understand the why of and then end up not getting much out of. I do feel like I w… See more0Reply

Trevor Charlie • Oct 8Question on the Defending as a Two arrival drill in week 9 of the Game Model. The plan describes in the set up working together to prevent the red attackers hitting the central target. On the diagram it doesn’t look like the red attackers are included and its not specified how many attackers to work with. Assuming that the black outside players are neutrals would it be fair to have 2 attackers vs 2 defenders to create a 2v2+4?2Reply
