Ross Whitehead🔥 • Sep 14Philosophy managers annoy me. Just be pragmatic! If you don’t have the players to play your system, then adapt until you do. Don’t put square pegs in round holes. You’re just setting yourself (and your players) up to fail. The aim in professional football is to win first and foremost. Is it better to win pretty? Yeah, but a win is a win, even if it is ugly. If you get beat playing beautiful football nobody cares, they just remember the defeat. See also Russell Martin.3Reply

He can still look to see all of his principles play through in a back 4 with wingers as he would in the 3-4-3.A formation is a tactical lever to bring your principles through but it shouldn’t be an actual principle. Saying that his CV is better than mine so I’ll shut up 😂3Reply

Ross Whitehead🔥 • Sep 14@Jamie Birch 🤣I think Amorim was well suited to Sporting, and he was coveted by many clubs, but his system just hasn’t travelled well. He has a 26% win rate or something like that. It’s madness! He’s too stubborn (or arrogant) to back down.3Reply

Justin Shiltz • Sep 14 (edited)What is his philosophy? What is he referring to? I assume he is talking about the 3-4-2-1 formation they play. As you all know, formation is not a philosophy. The entire situation at United is a head-scratcher. Last time I checked, defending, being clinical with one’s chances & just being pragmatic when necessary are all things teams can be regardless of formation. Can’t see him making it to the next international break.2Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • Sep 15@Justin Shiltz I think his philosophy is tied to the shape. If it wasn’t tied to the shape, why not just change the shape to be more compact? I get what he’s trying to do, I just don’t think it will work at the level he’s trying to do it at.The principles, the way they defend for example, are, for me anyway, a different thing. There are too many gaps between defence and midfield. They’re trying to defend the width of the pitch. When they attack they seem to slow down the attack every time - it’s… See more3Reply

Justin Shiltz • Sep 16@Kevin Middleton Seems like there is a mix. Thomas Frank seems very pragmatic & Russell Martin is the antithesis of pragmatism.1Reply
