Ross Whitehead🔥 • Oct 22Hi Sean, I just found your question. My group are younger (U11s) and we have never done corners or set pieces. It’s something that I would like to do, because every time we concede a corner we feel like we are going to lose a goal, and when we win a corner we know it’ll come to nothing. However, with so much else to fit in, we don’t really have the time to do it in 2 hours a week.4Reply

Stephen Kavanagh • Oct 23I tried to get the team to create their own corner routines last season, pre-season. As we’ve got a native Spanish speaker (as is my co-coach) I thought it would be fun for them to come up with 3 or 4 variations and give them Spanish animal names as code words. It didn’t work - they just whipped it into the box whatever call they were making. So we had a single routine that was exactly the same as having no plan. This season we’ve selected (so far) a single routine with dedicated roles. We line u… See more3Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • Oct 23@Stephen Kavanagh Great detail Stephen. I’ve always liked a low cross towards the 6 yard line, our players are positioned to give space at the front post and the first runner dummies the cross, it normally creates chaos or a tap in behind the decoy. Doesn’t always work but worth trying once a game.1Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • Oct 23I’ll apologise now for the editing, but here’s a corner routine that we used every week at 7aside. (Two hands up was the signal)The front post player fakes to receive. The back post player receivesMost of the time, the back post player receives unmarked, and the corner taker can overlap for the shot.I’ve shown a variation when the back post player is marked on the runIf a team puts a defender out to stop the cross before the corner is taken, then the back post player can still receive/link with … See more0:172Reply
