Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • 7dHi Mitch,I posted this a while back but it is a good way to introduce the concepthttps://www.skool.com/coachingacademy/introducing-combinations?p=4bb2457eThere are tons of exercises in the classrooms for combinations. If you are interested in checking them out yourself then please use the search bar to search for “combinations” and you should get a few hits.If you need further help then please let me know the age of your players and the level they play at and I can advise further2Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • 7d (edited)@Mitch Phillips For me, 1v1 skills should always be taught so players can 𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 and never be so isolated that players think that 1v1 skills should be used all the time. Not saying this is the case with you team or players, but I use this as a general rule of thumb because if there are better options, not picking one may put a player 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞.For example, if you do not have an advantage over a defender and can combine with a teammate, trying to beat a def… See more0:212Reply

Ross Whitehead🔥 • 7dI’m coaching a similar age group and this in one of the things that we are trying to work on too. They are at an age where some are still in that “me and the ball” mindset and they haven’t progressed it to “my team and the ball”. So we have a few that will try to take on everyone and lose the ball when there was a pass on. It’s decision making but also scanning, because if they don’t lift their head they won’t see the pass or the free player. They also need to be aware of the options when they ha… See more1Reply

Ross Whitehead🔥 • 7d@Mitch Phillips I saw this graphic on Twitter about the core moves to get your players to make. If they know these, then they can start to implement them in matches when they recognise when to use them. This will probably take a lot of repetition in training. (We’re trying to slowly bleed these concepts in)1Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • 7dI feel really strongly about this (as my comment alluded to earlier). If you just show them How, they won’t really understand When. As an example, they may try executing moves or trying to combine at random times. This will maybe just present a new problem for the coach. If you show them When and How, then they will understand more.If you also show them Where on the pitch to execute then 😵In my opinion, any combination exercise you run will have more success if it is tied to when and where to execute it.4Reply
