Jamie Birch🔥 • 22dHi Stephen, i generally find the root cause of keepers being stuck on their line is a poor starting position. Keepers need to move up the pitch as the outfield players do (from their line to outside their box as an example) to anticipate any through balls.Maybe some 1-2-1 coaching in training, in games where he’s a keeper, a coach paying close attention to him and talking him through his starting position. And maybe the same support on a game day.2Reply

Ross Whitehead🔥 • 22dHave you told him you want him to be a “sweeper keeper” and that if he comes out to claim the ball that he’ll 1) make the attacker panic 2) close down the angles to make it harder to get shots away? So you’d probably need to do some individual work with him and an attacker.1Reply

Stephen Kavanagh • 22dYes, we’ve had this conversation but for whatever reason he doesn’t move! I think he’s thinking “I’m a great shot stopper”. Not when the attacker is unopposed and they’ve got the whole goal to aim at from 12 yds out!!!I’ll have to do a bit 1-2-1 as you say @Ross Whitehead anyone got an activity that isn’t just dribble and shoot? i.e. creates a bit of reality of the scenario i.e. turnover, long ball over the top or through gap. I can’t think how I can do it without it being too unrealistic. I’d p… See more2Reply

Stephen Kavanagh • 22dAha! Yes thanks @Ross Whitehead I can adapt that - I think the recovering defender is important as it forces the striker to make a decision.2Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • 22d@Stephen Kavanagh I think if you coach/tell a player something it has impactIf his/her teammates say the same thing…. it has a huge impact!Just create the conditions for it, say the coaching point, and point out that if the GK forgets, the outfielders can help remind him.Done2Reply

Steve Miles • 21d (edited)Hi @Stephen Kavanagh - What age group is this - and is it general positioning or 1v1’s?I’d look at getting them in line with the ball first - so they have to imagine a piece of string going from the ball, through their body to a point on the centre of the goal lineThen they need to move DOWN the line - so they step forward along that imaginary piece of string, until they have narrowed the angle - if 1v1’s then they move as the ball moves and stay set when the ball is at the strikers feetIf in ge… See more3Reply
