Sean Ancheta • 26dI start off with cones about 15 to 20 yards apart. Have two lines of players go back and forth between the cones doing different dynamic stretches. After that we finish with a couples of sprints. While they are doing that I’m setting up a 30 x 30 grid and play 6v4 possession game.My bench players Are playing a 4v2 in another grid.2Reply

Brian Willis • 26d@Sean Ancheta I do something very similar. I’m not 100% happy with it though but have struggled with what to change. I’ve been toying with the idea of trying the one @Jamie Birch is showing here, but will wait til after out winter break to implement changes like that. I’ll work it into a few practices so they are comfortable with it on match day.1Reply

Sean Ancheta • 26d@Brian Willis one thing I’ve done the last two games is set up a grid like the one in the picture. Lately I’ve been having them practice possession in this area because it leads to the golden zone. So I will do like a 5 v 5 or 6 v 6 in this area. Once the ball gets to the striker near the box I have them shield for as long as possible to or play it back and move to receive the ball again. Our strikers have a hard time keeping holding on to the ball in game or give it up to easily.1Reply

Ross Whitehead🔥 • 26dWe usually do a bit of a movement drill to begin - get the players to run in a zig-zag, then shuffle the zig-zag, then touch the cones as run the zig-zag etc. Then we do some kind of passing drill - these vary to keep things from going stale. We’ve been doing a dribbling drill too to get the kids used to the ball at their feet. Then if we have time we do a bit of shooting to finish. The keeper will get taken into the nets for a warm-up while we do one of the above drills - then they are ready to face the shots.1Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • 26dI have a few base rules for a warm up.
- It should be fun to do
- They shouldn’t be learning any new exercises, it must be familiar to them
- High success rate exercises
- We’re not trying to get anyone tired. A gentle lift of heart rate

Anthony Kelly • 26d (edited)I tried a few different things over the years but have now stuck with the same warm up for the last 12 months.Space can be an issue in grassroots and often we are told not to warm up on the pitch, so I had to come up with things that I could do in the space between pitches.I now do dynamic stretching in two groups which leads into some short sprints. Then I move onto one that involves short passes and some runs off the ball. The final one is a rondo with outside bounce players.5Reply
