Jamie Birch🔥 • Oct 7Personally I would be working on our defensive shape without the ball. You might have to accept that you will spend large parts of the game without the ball so how you show up and operate in these moments are really important.Specifically working on compactness both horizontally and vertically. You’re own preparation is going to be important as well, the team need to see from you that you believe you can beat them. Some transition drills where you work attack vs defence, defence working on compac… See more3Reply

Trevor Charlie • Oct 7@Jamie Birch Its a good shout about adjusting my own mindset. Get over my initial frustrations and try and instill come belief. Difficult stage in our season which hasn’t really started yet to come up against a team of this calibre. Looking at the recent session of the week post @Kevin Middleton has posted would help with your suggestion.0Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • Oct 7Played superior opposition many times and I have some general advice that you can use to associate keywords and language with concepts. You can use these in your remaining training sessions and friendly, and they may help your players stay focused during a tough 90 mins:DELAY – You don’t have to win everything, but you do have to hold up opposition attacks and support will arriveSHAPE – Stay intact, stay together, work hard for each otherDEFEND - The first phase or you’ll be chasing the ball and… See more2Reply

Trevor Charlie • Oct 7@Kevin Middleton Good focus points, thanks. Building that back 4 and central discipline to defend, stay in a shape blocking and pressing as appropriate will be the challenge and hard work for the upcoming sessions and match. Do you have any recommends for sessions that could help?I think the Back 4 Defending - Protecting the Box and Back 4+3 Defending along the Defending centrally and controlling the gaps from week 9 in the game model look good but are there any more that I could consider?2Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • Oct 7 (edited)@Trevor Charlie Hi Trevor:Some rules and sessions:Group CompactnessNo more than 12m between any 2 players, horizontal, vertical, or diagonal lineSome sessions to get Groups to work together to achieve that compactness.Sessions that contain lots of 3v2 and 2v1 situations, emphasising:
- Cover and support
- Communication and compactness
- Practice defensive triangulation
work best3Reply
