Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • 21dDepends on the age of the players. I could coach an adult group on my own as they would coach each other.I could probably do kid groups up to 10 players on my own, but it is risky as it only takes one to act up, or even get hurt, and then your back is turned. I think it gets risky and unsafe if that happens3Reply

What is has made me think differently about though is the session design, i’ve changed my mind on a few exercises due to the time i’d be setting up, i’m basically removign as much friction as possible!Great point on the younger age groups though, interesting to hear others thoughts on that - i bet loads do coach 10+ individually, but i agree with your point, if you need to tie a shoelace or one starts crying for some reason then chaos could break out.1Reply

I would love to have an assistant so it would be easier to split in 2 groups that could focus on different things, vs keeping 1 group busy with an activity they know well while I work with another group on something like finishing.1Reply

It’s working well at the moment.I’m not sure how it would go if there was only one of us there to take the session, as our group are very easily distracted. I think with a group our size (and age), it’s 2 coaches minimum.1Reply

Before I joined the coaching team, the previous coach would frequently be on his own and have to take 10 kids (7 or 8 year olds) and he lost control all the time. They’d be booting balls everywhere or climbing fences if he turned his back.1Reply

I’ve run sessions by myself and the intensity and focus isn’t there if I split up the groups and do multiple things at a time. As soon as I turn my back, that group starts to slack off and lose focus.3Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • 20d@Kevin Middleton only 14 turned up in the end (classic), i kept it quite simple as it’s a new manager who wants to take a look at a few new players so i kept it game based. Easier for me to manage as well.Started with 2 x 4 v 2 (+1) rondo’s, then into a couple of side by side small sided games, both 3 v 3 (+1). Then finished with a 7v7.I’d planned for 17 so had to adapt slightly on the spot but enjoyable non the less. The cold weather hasn’t kicked in here yet either!4Reply

Ross Whitehead🔥 • 8dSlightly off-topic, but I found this https://learning.nspcc.org.uk/research-resources/briefings/recommended-adult-child-ratios-working-with-childrenWe recommend having at least two adults present when working with or supervising children and young people. We recommend the following adult to child ratios as the minimum numbers to help keep children safe:under 2 years - one adult to three children2 - 3 years - one adult to four children4 - 8 years - one adult to six children9 - 12 years - one adul… See more3Reply
