When I read this book, I realised that I knew very little about coaching. The way Pep thinks about football and people is on a different level. Changed the standards I demanded of myself and othersBest quote from the book: “There are many top, top athletes with tremendous God-given talent, but they don’t focus on the development of those gifts. Who are these? You have never heard of them – and you never will.”2Reply

Largely about looking to linkup and look for pairs on the field and how to use your players to your advantage and read the best way to beat defenders. For myself it’s going to be in corporates into how I want players to learn how to play off the ball better to help influence the game.2Reply

Chris Unruh • Jul 17By Bernhard Peters and Andreas SchumacherWhat I like about it is that it creates moreOf a principle of how to play instead of a defenders do this or forwards do that. Theory is that individually you are so much less successful in beating a player than if you can recognize how to use, or become a player that can help the one on the ball. It’s one of those see the game differently moments like yeah of course that makes sense. Double the chances of beating a player? Why wouldn’t you.To a point it’s… See more1Reply

Chris Unruh • Jul 17I’ll check that one out as an offseason book thanks . This is a relatively easy read. I can’t remember where I saw the stat or if I completely made it up but my understanding is that offensively a 1v1 is actually successful 30% of the time, 2v1s 60%, and 3v1 90%. So why don’t we focus more towards involving a 3rd player in our duels to our advantage. It’s our off season now so I haven’t gotten a chance to incorporate on the field yet but my hope is that it can help Involve players near but off t… See more1Reply

Chris Unruh • Jul 17Exactly. Create and train the behaviours then try to get them to replicate In a game setting. I’m very intrigued with this concept of getting guys involved off the ball. It’s like be ready to be the next dominoe to fall as they start tipping over towards you. A fork in the path is coming and the more options there are the harder it is to know where it will go1Reply

Chris Unruh • Jul 17There’s a decent YouTube account called coach Rory soccer and he does overloads in what he calls battle boxes. I usually did those prior to my 3v3 ssgs. But that’s a more static here is your second man you have to use him situation. My goal is to get players to do the prequel to that and first recognize and move to become that second player given the situation unfolding and create the 2v1 then execute it. Cause that’s really where the magic happens once the players see how they can help off ball and what a difference it makes3Reply
