- What to teach
- How to teach it

It’s been a minute since I’ve coached above U12, but if you’re making the jump from U9, training needs to align more with match day is the big difference. It’s probably going to be more tactical than technical. Check out the guides @Kevin Middleton has put together, they’re great.3Reply

Sean Ancheta • Nov 2@Ben White I would maybe start with the vision of how you want this team to play. Once you have that in mind, then choose some core drills/games that will allow the players to play out the vision you have.3Reply

Ben White • Nov 2@Sean Ancheta thanks. That’s one of the things I’m struggling with right now. I’m a pragmatist; I want to play whatever style suits the skill set of the group. I know most of the group from coaching them 2 years ago, but not all, and I don’t know how they’ve developed in the past year. I’m uncertain how much time I need to devote to evaluating their skillsets before implementing a philosophy.2Reply

Jess Knox • Nov 2@Ben White i love the packet that Kevin built that is the “assessment in the first week” it’s like four questions that you can apply to every player in the first week. I’ll see if I can find the link and post it here - I like it because it focuses on the speed of their decision making. What club are you in?3Reply
