This match will be less about our defense and more about how many goals we score. We’ll stick to our principles - smart decisions, don’t spend too much time on the ball trying to beat 2 or 3 defenders, make sure our passing is intentional and the weight of the pass is strong enough.6Reply

The game was pretty even at the start, and we had a couple of chances to go ahead before we conceded with what felt like their first attempt. But we rallied just before HT and drew level. At HT we reminded the kids to get their heads up and play the ball early as our attackers were quicker that their defenders. We star… See more4Reply

Ten minutes into the second half, our goal keeper was sent off…game plan slightly changed…!! Unfortunately lost 3-0. Very young team, lots to work on.2Reply

Lee Elwood • 24dFrustrating match weekend, team I coach, the manager played them in different postions which didn’t suit them or the team and tried a new formation, a team we were capable of winning we lost 2-1 - all other coaches were shouting across the pitch, argued with the ref, half of our players were not their usual selves, wandered around, our striker was so frustrated, he covered everyone else’s position. A game where they all blamed the ref and I cannot help but think I am on a different planet, the r… See more2Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • 24d@Lee Elwood one thing you can never change is the referees decision. Try and instil a “mistakes don’t matter, reactions do” mentality. Football is generally down to who reacts the fastest and with the most quality. These are obviously transition moments but for kids they won’t understand that language. So forget the decisions and mistakes and react. Take accountability (the players) having coaches shout and moan will just find its way to the players as they soak up how their managers and coaches behave.1Reply

Ross Whitehead🔥 • 24dNot a team I coach, but my daughter’s U13 team got through to a cup final today after a 4-3 penalty win after a thrilling 2-2 draw. The game had: a goal from the opposition keeper, a long rang left-footed equaliser, a well worked goal to put her team 2-1 down and then an OG to equalise (all in the first 25 minutes). DRAMA! 😄3Reply

Trevor Charlie • 23dWe lost again on Saturday, our first proper home game in months as pitch was being repaired. An improved performance from my 11 overall compared to abject effort and slow start last week. Pressing gone up a notch or 2, a few more showing willing to work a bit harder, encouraging signs from players who were poor last week. Levels of communication up from last week too. Better considering we were forced into yet another last minute change with our best defender who was out last week pulling up wit… See more2Reply

Trevor Charlie • 23d (edited)@Jamie Birch To be fair to him GK went on to dig deep and earn the POTM award at the end from Coaches winning his mental battle and producing a much improved performance and some decent saves 💪🏽Been thinking long and hard on this. One is new and the other one of most senior players (who wanted away to a higher tier team in summer unsuccessfully)I’ve realised that I’ve been trying to get attitude and work rate to improve more in hope than in good practice. Based on the lads that put in more of … See more1Reply

Anthony Kelly • 22dInterested to get some opinions on my second game of the weekend.U16 County cup.My team were drawn against a team we had never encountered before, as the referee was going through his expectations for the game he mentioned that the mercy rule was in play for this cup match, if one team gets to 9-0 the game is ended.I thought it was a little odd to mention it but we started the game and within 25mins we were 9-0 up, game was ended.Should the county cup be streamed by leagues or are competitions l… See more2Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • 22d@Anthony Kelly Hi Anthony, I’m not a huge fan myself. 25 mins of football isn’t great for anyone, especially at u16s the score is the score at that age in my opinion. Kids need touches of the ball and minutes on the pitch.1Reply

Anthony Kelly • 22d (edited)Apologies for continuing this topic but just had the opposition for this weekend pull out of another cup competition because they are Division 5 and we are Division 1 and the coach said they got heavily beaten last weekend so he isn’t putting his players through a similar game this weekend! So now my team played 25mins last weekend and have no game this weekend!2Reply
