Originally from Newcastle, I’ve stayed involved in the game at various levels ever since, coached D1 college for nearly 20 years. I currently own and operate a premier club in Connecticut on the East Coast, with over 1,200 kids in the program. If you have any questions about the model, feel free to fire away!CheersSteve2Reply

Clubs also generate income from matchday revenue, ticket sales, merchandise, and a large degree of community fundraising efforts and volunteer work.”That blurb is an AI generated description of … See more2Reply

Even where I live there are clubs that charge $5,000/year for their competitive teams. The biggest downside of pay to play is that it can shift the focus from development to results and it can encourage parents to be very opinionated because they want to get what they see as their money’s worth.4Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • 10d@Brian Willis I’ve always wondered about the parent dynamic in pay to play. I’ve written about it in my course but haven’t actually experienced it directly.0Reply

Ross Whitehead🔥 • 10d@Brian Willis Is this because of the franchise way that clubs are run, or is it because other clubs don’t have the facilities to support movement up and down leagues?0Reply

Yes you are paying for your child to be developed but what you are really paying for is exposure IMO.When it comes to sports in the US, parents are willing to shell out all kinds of money to make their kid better. Problem is a lot of kids don’t play at home, at school , after school. There might be pockets in the US where there… See more3Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • 9d@Sean Ancheta this is really interesting. Not sure I’m a huge fan of the only way you can play is by playing. But like you say if kids arnt playing after school etc that’s the only way.0Reply

Brian Willis • 9d@Jamie Birch @Sean Ancheta The kids who probably play the most outside of school/organized programs probably come from immigrant communities. They often get overlooked by the USSF system too because they can’t afford to play club soccer. I know a lot of clubs have financial assistance but it’s limited.3Reply
