Jamie Birch🔥 • Oct 28Personally i think football has cycles of styles and this is just a more prominant return of something that’s been in the game forever. There’s lots of ways to win a game of football and i’m a fan of them all!1Reply

We adapted from flat 4-4-2 and erm ‘robust’ football slowly, overtime as the rest of the world overtook us tactically. Now everyone is playing out and using positional play, the long ball is back (against a high line).1Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • Oct 31@Stephen Kavanagh do you think defenders have softended in their ability over the last 10 years to deal with direct play?0Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • Oct 28@Brian Willis the trends will filter down to grassroots as people copy what they see on TV. Not always a bad thing. Keep trying to get your guys to play, sometimes the longer option is the right one though. If you’ve set up to play out from the back, and the opposition are set up to press heavily that should open up space further up.1Reply

Ross Whitehead🔥 • Oct 28The ‘philosophy’ manager seems to be going out of favour. Ange Postecoglu and Russell Martin are two recent casualties as teams seem to be going for more pragmatic managers now. Even Pep isn’t as dogmatic to his tika-taka anymore. As Jamie says everything seems to be going in cycles.2Reply

Brian Willis • Oct 28@Ross Whitehead My club pushes a lot of philosophy, but if you pay attention it’s like a swiss army knife where they try to cover every possible way to play. I try to play to my team’s strengths and build on that. We might be a totally different team by the end of the season or we may not, but my job is done as long as I have helped them all improve as players along the way.4Reply
