Ross Whitehead🔥 • 28dI was suggesting a few new drills to our head coach the other day, and he said “our group will struggle with all that”. Even though it wasn’t that complicated, our kids (9/10/11) tend to struggle when we introduce something new to them. BUT they do get it eventually, so I think you just need to repeat the drill until the penny drops. When we go back to old drills that we haven’t done for ages, but that they should know, they struggle too.0Reply

Brian Willis • 28d@Ross Whitehead Introducing drills like this earlier in the season might make a big difference. We have a tough match on Saturday and 2nd match on Sunday, so in hindsight maybe this week wasn’t the ideal time to try something new.1Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • 27dHi Brian, this one is designed to play in and out of pressure, and to simulate breaking lines, so the defenders need to change their body orientation to see the ball. When this change of orientation happens, attackers can then move into defenders’ blind spots/dismark at that point.Struggle is good though! These are difficult exercises and concepts. Players are not going to grasp them the first time, in my experience. If you want to strip it back, then do the 6v6+3 without the goals, and coach wha… See more2Reply

Brian Willis • 27d@Kevin Middleton Starting without goals and building to that would have been a much better way to introduce this drill. I got ahead of myself.2Reply

Kevin Middleton⭐🔥 • 27d@Brian Willis This is the issue with posting random drills online (guilty!)… they aren’t connected to a framework or model, and I think that’s the power of having a curriculum alinged to a model/set of principles. However, that’s what Jamie and I are here for….. to help you connect our thinking and our session planning to the wider context.2Reply

Sean Ancheta • 26dI agree with @Keith Middleton to remove the goals. The essence of the drill isn’t lost when you take out the goals.I have been doing this drill in a smaller scale and it has been great. 4v4+3.It’s been able to reinforce the principles we have laid out for the team.0Reply
