Jamie Birch🔥 • Sep 29I’ll add these videos to all of the position guides in the 11v11 course guys. Don’t think that’s just for 11 v 11 though, there’s lots you can take that will be relevent for all stages.1Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • Sep 29@Ross Whitehead If there is a threat in behind, the backline needs to drop immediatley and there needs to be immediate pressure on the ball from midfield or strikers. You might want to think about the position of the GK when in possession as well if there is a Jamie Vardy style striker and the opposition are going direct.A major principle of defending is DELAY. Slow the ball down, allow the team to get its shape and be compact.2Reply

Angle the press to one side (even better if it is their weaker side)That will give your players time to get back3Reply

Ross Whitehead🔥 • Sep 29We do tell our keeper that he is a “sweeper-keeper”, but sometimes in a 1v1 he’ll back off into the goal rather than charge out and scare the attacker. On Saturday we were fortunate that our defenders were quick enough to provide cover and snuff out the through balls.2Reply

Jamie Birch🔥 • Sep 29@Ross Whitehead In the transition from attack to defence. I like to keep it simple, can we get immediate pressure on the ball?Yes - we can stay aggressive and high as the opponent will have their head down and will hopefully go sideways or backwards. No - we need to drop into a compact block and get our defensive shape.1Reply
