Coaching Points for Cruyff Turn
Watch the Ball:
- Maintain focus on the ball to time the turn effectively.
Fake to Strike or Cross:
- Use your body and arm for balance, creating the illusion of a shot or cross to mislead defenders.
Kicking Foot Technique:
- Bring your kicking foot around the front of the ball and use the base of your big toe to play the ball back behind your standing leg.
Change Direction:
- Pivot your body to follow the ball into the new direction, keeping it close for control.
Acceleration:
- Accelerate away from the defender after completing the turn to maximise space and time.
Additional Considerations:
Body Positioning:
- Maintain a low centre of gravity to enhance balance and control during the turn.
Deception:
- Perfect the fake shot or cross with realistic movements to effectively sell the move.
Practice Drills:
- Use cones or defenders to practice the Cruyff turn in tight spaces.
- Incorporate the move into game scenarios during training to build confidence and adaptability.
